Japanese TV in Vietnam
JTV PLAYON is a Japanese TV (IPTV) service for Japanese people living overseas, operated by VPCZen. It streams 60 live Japanese channels (terrestrial, BS and CS) and more than 30,000 VOD titles worldwide, on a dedicated Android TV box or on devices you already own, with recording and catch-up, over an ordinary internet connection and without a VPN.
Vietnam has seen the fastest growth of any Japanese community in the region, driven by manufacturing investment. Most residents live in Ho Chi Minh City (District 1, District 2 and Phu My Hung) or Hanoi.
Only two hours separate Hanoi from Tokyo, so live viewing is practical. Home fibre from FPT, Viettel or VNPT carries the stream comfortably, and no VPN is involved at any point.
In Vietnam the service runs over the internet connection you already have — nothing is installed on the building, there is no dish and no local TV contract. Vietnam is 2 hours behind Japan.
Watching from Vietnam: what to expect
When do Japanese programmes air in Vietnam?
| Japan time | Local time | Typical programmes |
|---|---|---|
| 7am | 5am | Morning news and magazine shows |
| 12pm | 10am | Midday news |
| 7pm | 5pm | Evening news |
| 9pm | 7pm | Drama and variety |
2 hours behind Japan. Anything you cannot watch live stays available through recording and catch-up.
📡 Internet connection
The main providers are FPT, Viettel and VNPT. A standard residential plan is enough; the stream adjusts its quality to the line rather than stopping.
🔒 Do you need a VPN in Vietnam?
No. Nothing needs to be configured — the service works on your normal connection.
📺 Getting the equipment
Android TV boxes are widely available locally, and in districts with many Japanese residents there are installers familiar with the setup.
